Name the professional athletes you respect the most and why.

I couldn’t name a single professional athlete, and I’m cool with that. I’m an artist, athletics and sport don’t interest me one bit. However I do appreciate people who dedicate themselves to doing something they love, because it’s not an easy road, but it’s certainly a more fulfilling path.

At school I was the geeky kid in the library drawing or reading books while other kids were out kicking the footy around. And I think that should be celebrated as well and not treated like I made a decision to be antisocial. I run a cafe, so it’ definitely wasn’t me trying to be antisocial.

So in answer to the question, one professional I respect the most would have to be the mysterious street artist Banksy. His style of stencils, spray paint and glued up posters is one that I really love, because it’s striking and simple. His work is always eye catching, it draws you in and using a dark sense of humour he always makes you think.

I love that he works outside a the heavily constructed art scene, keeps his identity anonymous and still manages to be prolific and relevant on the world stage. Despite living outside the law I also think his work ethic and dedication to his craft must be exceptional. These are the values I look up to in individuals. A passion and dedication to their work, especially when it doesn’t fit within the norms of the society we’ve created. The world is a better place for having people like this in it, no matter how they decide to express themselves.
