Artist Authenticity

Which topics would you like to be more informed about?

I’ve got a pretty narrow focus here, but I’d like to stay more informed about, learn about, and keep up to date with new and interesting illustration tools available to us like Procreate and Adobe draw. I would like to stay more up to date about the world of NFT art. Especially after the platform I’ve been using decided to close its doors, and now I have to transfer all of my art and collected works out of there before I lose the lot. I’d also like to be more informed about how artists can get noticed on social media.

Outside of that I have a keen interest in the planet and the creatures and plants that inhabit it. I’m also very keen to stay up to date with how we can tread as lightly as possible on the planet and keep up to date with sustainable living practices.

So maybe my focus isn’t that narrow after all. But I certainly couldn’t be bothered with latest news headlines, as the lines of authenticity become blurred and distorted in order to get you to click their links, to see their adverts in the relatively new digital world that we live in. A world already filled with AI creations, deep fakes and bad actors.

This led me to think about the thriving artist, like everything does. Thinking how can a thriving artist flourish in this new space? And I think the answer is being an authentic artist. By that I mean, have an official website that links to your official social media accounts. Show up regularly, preferably in video form showing work in progress videos of the art you are working on. Basically anything that proves you are a real person, creating real things and not a ‘bad actor’ looking to make a quick buck from appropriated art.

And the benefit of being authentic and putting yourself out into the digital world is you’ll connect with your audience on a deeper level and possibly build a kind of community around your art.
