What would you do if you lost all your possessions?
Have a party!
We were going to move overseas to live, we sold everything we owned and gave away the rest. Then suddenly world travel became very difficult and we couldn’t travel. So we were stuck where we were with nothing. Except we didn’t have nothing we had each other as a family and our health, our cloths and our money.
Having minimal possessions is actually very freeing and with our new found freedom, free from possessions we went about figuring out what direction we wanted to take our lives. We bought an old school bus to convert to a motorhome and moved to the country. Space to breathe, live and create.
I’ve always found that I create better in an uncluttered environment. Clutter for me clouds or fills my head full of noise and makes it difficult to think clearly. So the idea of selling everything and moving to the country was a very attractive one.
Things haven’t been as smooth sailing as this sounds however. Making major changes to your lives is hard work. Letting go of things is hard work. It seems that a lot of emotional baggage attaches itself to actual baggage. So in a way letting go of all of your things can be good for you in the long run, but it may not be an easy process.
With my Inktober Day 8 prompt – Toad. I decided to let go of my tighter more constrained style and let loose with a scribble sketch using a sharpie. It’s not something I’d normally create and I think it’s an interesting look. So maybe letting go of some of your self imposed artistic constraints can help you explore different styles.
