We need failure

What’s something you would attempt if you were guaranteed not to fail.

If I was guaranteed not to fail, I’d definitely be a full time thriving artist, cafe gallery boss and a hobby farmer.

The funny thing is that’s what I’m working towards now and I don’t even care if I fail. Well of course I care if I fail, in fact the possibility of failure is what drives me forward and to put in the best effort I can. If I was guaranteed that I wasn’t going to fail, I probably wouldn’t put in my best work. So I guess we actually need failure for three reasons.

Firstly if you do succeed in what you’re doing you’ll get more of a sense of accomplishment because you did it and didn’t fail. Secondly you need failure to drive you and create the ambition you need to create your best work to avoid failure. Thirdly if you do fail, all is not lost because failure is a massive learning experience that can educate you and possibly direct you towards success next time. So it turns out being guaranteed not to fail as a thriving artist isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Instead I might say for something I’d attempt if I was guaranteed not to fail would be time travelling back to the time of the dinosaur’s and safely back again… that might be something more appropriate.
