What does it mean to be a kid at heart?
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Pablo Picasso
I think every thriving artist is a child at heart… that’s the secret… well not ‘The Secret’ but it’s definitely a massive part of the puzzle. Because kids don’t give up when they get knocked down. They might have a cry for a little while, but five minutes later they are back at it again. And that’s a major key to being a thriving artist.
Also kids are always creating and mastering their art and drawing over and over again. Exploring with different mediums and subject matter and just creating, endlessly creating. Which is another characteristic of the thriving artist… fearless experimentation is massive. It’s only when people ‘adults’ start to impose their views as to how things should be done that kids start to become critical and their work and require validation from others as to weather a piece of art is good or bad. If you enjoy creating your art, that should be enough. You don’t need others to tell you what they think.
The only possible downside of being a kid at heart as a thriving artist is that you also need to treat your art like a business, something that being a kid at heart isn’t always compatible with.
