Who’s Andrew?

Write about your first name: its meaning, significance, etymology, etc.

So, Andrew, my official title according to banks and scolding parents, has a strong and somewhat stern vibe. I prefer the more playful moniker, Andy, as it aligns more with my wannabe thriving career as an illustration artist. There’s a certain magic in a name that can seamlessly transition from the stern echoes of responsibility to the irresponsible strokes of creativity.

Digging into the etymology of Andrew, I found that it means “manly” or “strong.” Well, I suppose that’s fitting for a career that requires a robust imagination and a sturdy commitment to bringing stories to life. It’s a name that carries a sense of responsibility, much like when the bank calls with a polite reminder about finances.

What’s also kind of cool is the connection to the legendary Andy Warhol. Sharing the same first name as the iconic pop artist adds a touch of art to my journey. And reminds me that a successful artist can be called Andy. Now, I’m not saying I’m about to recreate a majestic Campbell’s Soup Can in my illustrations, but hey, a bit of artistic inspiration never hurt anyone.

So, here’s to being Andy, where the only trouble I’d want to encounter is deciding which color to paint my next Uncommon Animal. And to all the banks out there, just remember, behind the name Andrew is a chaotic wannabe thriving artist who’s attempting to turn dreams into illustrations, one scribble at a time.
