A Creative Journey from Filmmaking to Thriving Artist

If there was a biography about you, what would the title be?

As I reflect on my creative journey from running a mobile cinema business to becoming a children’s book writer and illustrator, the title “Fork in the Road” couldn’t be more fitting. It encapsulates the pivotal moments and decisions that shaped my creative career.

My adventure began with Road Movie Mobile Cinema, a venture born out of my love for filmmaking and my desire to bring outdoor movie screenings to communities across South Australia. Traveling from town to town, setting up under the stars, and watching families come together to enjoy cinema under the open sky was a dream come true. But as life often does, it presented me with a new path when I became a father.

Becoming a dad not only changed my perspective on life but also ignited a fire within me to create my own stories and artwork that would inspire and captivate young minds. It was at this fork in the road that I made the decision to transition from being a cinema entrepreneur to a full-fledged artist and children’s book creator.

The journey wasn’t without its challenges. The road to success as an artist is often winding and uncertain, filled with doubts and insecurities. But I knew that standing at the crossroads meant I had the opportunity to choose my direction, to forge my own path towards a thriving and fulfilling creative career.

For me, the fork in the road symbolises the choices artists face in their journey towards success. It’s about recognising the need to pivot, to evolve, and to embrace new opportunities for growth. It’s about honing your craft, finding your unique voice, and staying true to your passion and vision.

In my biography, “Fork in the Road,” If and hopefully when I succeed, my personal story will provide valuable insights and lessons learned along the way. It’s a case study on what it takes to navigate the challenges of the creative industry and emerge as a thriving and successful artist. Whether you’re at the beginning of your journey or standing at your own fork in the road, my hope is that my story will inspire and empower you to take that leap of faith and pursue your dreams with courage and conviction.

So here’s to embracing the forks in our roads, to daring to choose the path less traveled, and to creating our own destinies as artists. After all, it’s at these crossroads that our greatest adventures and triumphs await.

  1. “She finally did it!” This would be my biography. I returned to school and earned two degrees. I pushed through my fears (amen) and went for it with the love and support of my family.
