There’s something profoundly satisfying about the simple act of putting pencil to paper and creating something that sparks my interest. Drawing, for me, is not just a hobby; it’s a joy-filled experience that enriches my life in countless ways. But there’s a specific facet of drawing that brings an extra layer of happiness: doodling. The spontaneous, free-form nature of doodling allows my creativity to flow without constraints, transforming idle sketches into delightful artworks. #Doodling #PencilSketch #Drawing

I remember one particular instance that highlighted this joy vividly. I had created a piece that I later turned into flower wallpaper, which became the perfect backdrop for my Xantus Hummingbird illustration in my “Uncommon Animals of the Alphabet” kids’ book. This project exemplified how a simple doodle can evolve into something much more significant, serving not only as a creative outlet but also as a practical element in my work.
My love for creating wallpaper patterns actually began while illustrating my first kids’ book for Elijah and Crumpet, titled “Motivate Man.” I wanted the interior walls in the book to be adorned with framed pictures and detailed wallpaper, adding depth and richness to the illustrations. This meticulous attention to background details has clearly carried over to my “Uncommon Animals” book, where I continue to experiment with and enjoy creating unique patterns.
What I find most delightful is how a simple doodle can transcend the paper. These designs can be transformed into wallpaper, and from there, they can become anything – a mug, a throw pillow, or any other physical item you can imagine. The ability to bring my creations into the physical world is incredibly fulfilling. Each doodle holds potential, waiting to be developed into something tangible and beautiful.
Describe one simple thing you do that brings joy to your life.
Drawing, and particularly doodling, has become a cherished part of my daily routine. It’s a source of endless exploration and satisfaction, allowing me to express myself in ways that are both simple and profound. The joy it brings is not just in the act itself, but in the myriad possibilities it opens up. Whether it’s creating intricate wallpapers or simply enjoying the process of drawing, this simple activity continually enriches my life.
So, if you ever find yourself in need of a little joy, try picking up a pencil and letting your imagination roam free. You never know what wonderful things might come from a simple doodle. For me, it’s a source of endless delight and a reminder of the boundless potential of creativity.
