Embracing the Uncommon

My Lynx stickers are here! These little wonders are part of my “Uncommon Animals of the Alphabet” series, celebrating the fascinating and often overlooked creatures of our world. But as I was designing these stickers, I couldn’t help but draw a parallel to another passion of mine: music. Specifically, the kind of music that’s as unique and uncommon as the animals I love to illustrate.

These elusive, solitary cats are true marvels of nature. With their tufted ears and piercing eyes, they’re perfectly adapted to their environments, whether it’s the dense forests of North America or the rugged terrains of Eurasia. Here are a few cool facts about lynxes to impress your friends:

  • Master Hunters: Lynxes are incredible hunters, often catching prey much larger than themselves. They rely on stealth and silence, using their keen senses to stalk and ambush their targets.
  • Night Vision: Thanks to their exceptional night vision, lynxes are primarily nocturnal hunters, making them ghostly figures of the night.
  • Solitary Life: These cats prefer to live alone, marking their vast territories to ward off other lynxes. Their independence and self-reliance are truly admirable traits.
  • Silent Communicators: While lynxes are generally quiet, they communicate through a variety of vocalizations, from mews and hisses to growls and purrs, especially during mating season.

What is your favorite genre of music?

Just like the lynx, my favorite bands and artists are anything but ordinary. They’re bold, original, and playfully experimental, creating sounds that stand out from the mainstream noise. Here are some of my top picks:

  • The Pixies: Masters of loud-quiet-loud dynamics, their music is raw and unpredictable.
  • The Scientists: Australia’s own, blending punk rock with swampy, psychedelic vibes.
  • Blur and Gorillaz: Britpop legends and virtual band pioneers, respectively, always pushing the boundaries of genre.
  • Nina Simone: Her voice, her music, her spirit—unmatched in its depth and emotion.
  • RL Burnside: The embodiment of the blues, gritty and real.
  • Chinese Man: Trip-hop and electro beats with a global twist, making every track an adventure.
  • Talking Heads: The art-rock innovators who made quirky and catchy their trademark.

You might wonder how lynxes and these eclectic bands connect. For me, it’s all about embracing the uncommon, the bold, and the playful. Just as I’m drawn to creating art that features unusual and fascinating animals, I’m equally drawn to music that breaks the mold and dares to be different. Whether it’s the haunting call of a lynx in the wild or the unexpected chord changes of a Pixies song, there’s a thrill in experiencing something unique and wonderfully unpredictable.

So, here’s to the uncommon and the extraordinary—whether it’s in the form of a stealthy lynx or a groundbreaking band. My new Lynx stickers are a tribute to this spirit, celebrating the beauty and mystery of these amazing creatures. And just like my favorite music, these stickers are bold, original, and playful, ready to add a touch of wild charm to your everyday life.

Stay bold, stay original, and most importantly, stay playful.
