Trusting your instincts—sounds simple. Except that, as an artist, trusting your instincts can feel like wandering into uncharted territory without a map, or without a phone, or without GPS on your phone. Then blindly hoping the universe has your back… and most times the universe is up to more important things, like making sure Aardvarks start appearing on T-shirts everywhere.

Let’s face it, I’ve spent way too much time overthinking ideas, spiraling into endless self-doubt. “Is this shit? Will people even get it?”—familiar thoughts, right? But here’s the thing: when you second-guess your gut, you’re basically shutting down the part of you that makes your art unique in the first place. I mean, no one ever created groundbreaking art by asking, “Will everyone like this?”
So, here’s what I’m reminding myself (and you): if that bizarre, unconventional idea pops into your head, just go for it. Seriously. Don’t overanalyse. Don’t crowdsource opinions. Just let it flow, however raw or strange it may seem.
Because those gut feelings are like little whispers from your gut bacteria, telling you exactly what you need to say, even if it feels uncomfortable. And trust me, the work that’s true to your instincts resonates in ways you can’t predict—it’s honest, and honesty is what connects people to your art. It might not please everyone, but who cares? The ones it does resonate with will feel it deeply. So, let go of the fear and embrace the weird and set your gut free.
