The Evolution of My Art: Layers, Recycling, and Immortality

Art is a living, breathing thing—at least that’s how it feels to me. Over time, my creative process has evolved to echo the same themes that fascinate me: evolution, decomposition, and layering. My Immortal Jellyfish throw cushion is a prime example of how these ideas take shape in my work.

Immortal Kaleidoscope

This cushion showcases my Immortal Kaleidoscope artwork, a piece born from my ongoing journey as an artist. Like most of my creations, it’s a reimagining—a recycling of past works transformed into something new and independent. What began as a simple pencil sketch of an immortal jellyfish became “I” in my Uncommon Animals of the Alphabet series. But I didn’t stop there.

Composting My Past Artworks

I like to think of my process as building a fertile compost pile. Old pieces, sketches, and ideas decompose over time, feeding into fresh works. Each layer is infused with the remnants of what came before, creating a rich foundation for new growth. The Immortal Jellyfish evolved into the Immortal Kaleidoscope—a standalone piece that celebrates symmetry and movement while retaining the essence of its origins.

This throw cushion embodies that evolution. From a letter in a kids’ book to a kaleidoscopic pattern that could be reimagined as wallpaper or even alien-inspired art, this jellyfish has sprouted into multiple lives. The layers of the artwork mirror the layers of my artistic growth. Each iteration reflects new skills, experiments, and ideas that build on the old.

Evolution as an Artist

As an artist, I’ve learned to embrace evolution. My early work was raw and unpolished, with each piece feeling like an end point. Now, I see every creation as a starting point—a stepping stone to something more. The process of reworking past art into fresh designs, like the Immortal Jellyfish throw cushion, is both grounding and liberating.

This cushion, with its vivid purples and intricate layers, represents more than just a piece of home décor. It tells the story of how my work evolves over time, standing on the layers of its past. It’s the visual representation of my belief that art, much like species, survives through adaptation and reinvention.

I hope my Immortal Jellyfish inspires you to see beauty in evolution—not just in nature, but in art, ideas, and life itself. If you’re curious, keep an eye out for her next form. Who knows? She might soon be swimming across your wall as a bold wallpaper design or floating into new, alien-inspired realms.
