Meet the Water Deer, nature’s beautifully strange alignment of all the things I love: an uncommon animal with just enough mystery to feel like it wandered out of a myth. With tusks like a vampire, ears like radar dishes, and a wary, almost otherworldly stare, the Water Deer straddles the line between the real and the surreal. This limited edition print of “W is for Water Deer” celebrates its rare qualities and hopefully draws attention to an animal that’s quietly clinging to existence in a changing world.
Water deer, sometimes called “vampire deer” for their fang-like tusks, are native to the river valleys and wetlands of China and Korea. Despite their spooky appearance, they’re shy, solitary herbivores—more misunderstood than menacing. But their habitats are under pressure from development and current farming practices.
This artwork combines my drip op art wallpaper style with the signature character design from my kids’ book, Uncommon Animals of the Alphabet. The green-on-green palette, surreal scale, and stylised tusks make this piece one of the standout showpieces of the collection. It’s bold, playful, and just a little bit weird. perfect for a curious kid’s bedroom, a nature lover’s wall, or anyone whose name begins with W.
Each piece is printed with archival inks on gallery-quality paper, hand-signed, and numbered 1–10. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
