Q is for Queen Charlotte Goshawk – Limited Edition Art Prints Now Available

I’m excited to share the latest limited edition artwork from my Uncommon Animals of the Alphabet series – Q is for Queen Charlotte Goshawk.

There are just 10 hand-numbered limited edition prints available, each one celebrating this incredibly rare and elusive bird of prey. Like much of the series, this piece is a love letter to nature’s lesser-known wonders, especially those hanging on the edge of being forgotten.

The Queen Charlotte Goshawk (or Accipiter gentilis laingi) is found only in the temperate rainforests of Haida Gwaii and the coastal areas of British Columbia. It’s a subspecies of the Northern Goshawk but with its own darker, more mysterious flair – much like a myth that turned out to be real. Sadly, it’s at risk, listed as Threatened due to deforestation and habitat loss. These birds rely on old-growth forests to survive – the very kind that are being logged out of existence.

I wanted this artwork to reflect their fierce beauty, with piercing red eyes, and a bold symmetrical composition that confronts you, beak to stare. The background features a repeating pattern of trees, but here’s my favorite part: if you look closely, those trees double as tiny feather motifs – a nod to the bird’s camouflaged life in the dense forest canopy. It’s one of those subtle design touches that gives the piece a sense of place, texture, and hidden meaning.

This isn’t just art for art’s sake. It’s part of a growing mission I’m on – to celebrate and raise awareness for the animals you don’t often see in kids’ books, galleries, or gift shops. With each print, I hope to spark curiosity, conversation, and a bit of protective wonder.
