Promote Promoting Yourself

Let’s talk about the big thing we all secretly dread as artists: selling ourselves. Yep, that cringe-worthy, stomach-churning moment where we have to say, “Hey, look at me! Look at what I made!” Most of us would rather stick a paintbrush in our eye. But here’s the kicker—if it’s a choice between being called a ‘sell-out’ or, you know, starving… well, I’ll take ‘sell-out’ for $500, Alex. Because honestly, eating is nice. Call me crazy.

For too long, we’ve had this idea that real artists suffer. We wear the ‘starving artist’ badge with pride, as if ramen noodles and unpaid bills fuel creativity. Spoiler alert: they don’t. If anything, they just fuel stress. So, let’s shift this mindset, shall we? It’s okay to gasp promote yourself, tell your story, and share your art with the world. You’re not betraying your soul—you’re just trying to get paid for being awesome.

Here’s the thing: modern advertising isn’t plastering your face on billboards or flashy TV ads anymore. Those days are as outdated as my first website (you don’t want to see it). These days, it’s about telling stories and making content. And guess what? That’s exactly what we do! We create, we tell stories, we make magic happen. So why not share it?
