What’s the biggest risk you’d like to take — but haven’t been able to?
I think one of the biggest things for artists is quitting your day job and going full time. However I really think you need to consider what that might mean and what artwork you want to be creating. Because if you are just creating any art work commissions that come along you may start to not enjoy it as much. I really think you need to be doing the kind of work you want to do. Either that or commissioned work for people who like your particular style. Not trying to adapt your style to fit the job description. Unless you enjoy that kind of challenge.
So yes I’d like to become a full time artist. However I’m currently working on our other cafe/gallery venture which is currently bringing in more income for our family. I think unless you are quite financial to begin with that it’s a really difficult balancing act transitioning from your ‘day job’ to an art career. And it’s obviously more difficult when you have commitments like bills, rent, mortgage and a family to support. I think it’s difficult but I don’t think it’s impossible, and hopefully I’ll get there one day.
