To put an artistic spin on this prompt I thought I’d list the top 5 tools that I use as an artist. These are things that I carry everywhere with me in my bag, because you never know when you are going to get little pocket of time to get some art done.
1. Sketch book – My sketchbook goes everywhere with me. It’s not very big so it can fit in my bag. My sketchbook is filled with sketches (obviously) but also ideas, writing and lists of things like how I’ll distribute my art on social media. Basically anything to do with my art. So as far as sketch books go it’s a bit of a mess. It certainly isn’t one of those sketchbooks you see artists showing off on YouTube where every page is filled with beautiful art.
2. Propelling Pencil – this just saves on space and mess. It doesn’t need sharpening so my bag doesn’t end up being filled with pencil shavings. Also having an eraser on the end means I always know where to find it, and stops me chewing the end of my pencil.
3. Mini phone tripod bendy bracket thingy for my phone – This allows me to film Timelapse’s when I illustrate or do a sketchy livestream on YouTube. It can easily be attached to a tabletop and positioned over my sketchbook while I draw. I’ve done many illustrating livestreams from my car with this cool little thing.
4. iPad – obviously this is where I get all of my digital illustrations done. I use the Procreate drawing software that Is an absolutely amazing tool that allows me to finish my drawings off to a professional level.
5. Iphone – Here I do all of the business and marketing for my artwork. I update my website, do social media posts, blog writing and more. And essentially I can do almost all of the above mentioned things on my phone as well, if push came to shove.
