How are you creative?
Creativity has been the guiding force throughout my journey, evolving from a visual storyteller in film school to crafting whimsical illustrations for children’s books. My creative adventure began with directing and shooting numerous short student films, but it was my ability to illustrate storyboards that ignited a new passion.
Embracing a childlike drawing style, my creative expression took a exciting turn, especially when fatherhood became a part of my story. The idea of connecting with children through art sparked the realization that I could pivot my career toward illustrating kids’ books.
The transition took time, but my artistic journey unfolded with the illustration of two delightful books for popular YouTubers Elijah and Crumpet. Each page brought characters and narratives to life, resonating with young readers and their families. The joy derived from this process fuelled my determination to tackle a personal project – “Uncommon Animals of the Alphabet.”
As I get more into the creation of this unique kids’ book, the process becomes more than just illustrating; it’s a labor of love. Each letter of the alphabet introduces young readers to uncommon animals, weaving education into a colourful visual narrative. The passion for storytelling remains at the core, now with a broader canvas that inspires imagination.
What captivates me about kids’ book illustration is its inherent connection to the world of art. It’s not merely about crafting a story but creating artworks that hopefully intrigue young minds to learn more about these diverse and wonderful creatures. The crossover between illustrating children’s books and creating standalone artworks adds a unique angle to my creative pursuits.
Over my creative journey, I’ve discovered that creativity is not a fixed destination but a dynamic, evolving process. From the cinematic frames of student films to the cute pages of children’s books, my creative spirit continues to explore new realms.
